Help Fight Racist K-2 Curriculum and School Discipline in MPS

Join educators, students, and community in attending the next MPS School Board Meeting to let MPS know that we will not tolerate, I. racist curricula, or II. racist school discipline practices.

Tuesday, September 8th

Davis Center, 1250 W. Broadway Ave, Minneapolis

I. Info on racist K-2 curriculum in MPS

During professional development prior to school starting, educators became aware of new, and offensive, racist, K-2 literacy curriculum purchased by MPS from a company called Reading Horizons for $1.2 million. Sign the petition against it. Here is an an example image from the curriculum. Note that Minneapolis recently changed “Columbus Day” to Indigenous People’s Day in response to calls to acknowledge the violent falsity of the widely-told American origin story:

Send us an email if you’d like more information about the event – or call  (612) 787-2272
We are working to ensure that, this year, tablers will have maximum exposure to Fair attendees (to give you an idea, last year we had more than 500 participants). Please fill out this form to request a table for your group or organization. Let us know if you have any special needs, and we’ll try to help!
Please don’t forget to submit a workshop – proposals are due on Friday, September 4th!
Interested in getting involved in the fair in other ways too?
We are especially looking for help with interpretation and translation to make the fair an inclusive, accessible space. Please let us know if you can help with interpretation in a commonly spoken language in the Twin Cities (especially Spanish, Somali, and Hmong) or know someone who can.
Look out next week for announcements about location, registration, and more!
